Categories and Divisions
At NBHA-PR, barrel racing is for everyone. No matter your gender, age, or horse breed, there's a place for you at NBHA-PR. We have a Category System divided by age, and these categories are further subdivided into Divisions. This gives members a real opportunity to compete for prizes and accumulate points, regardless of their experience level.
At NBHA-PR, we use a Division System adapted to our specific circumstances. This system divides competitors by skill level within their age category using an introductory 3D format (3 divisions), where points and/or prizes are awarded based on the time difference with respect to the winner. This allows all riders, from beginners to experienced, to compete for prizes and points in their respective divisions, promoting fairness and participation.
YOUTH
8 - 12 Years
Category for competitors aged 7-12 as of January 1st of the competition year. It is further divided into 3 Divisions. This category runs independently and is not usually combined with other categories. If a competitor joins an Open category at an event, they will be considered an Open competitor for prizes but will not receive points, which will be awarded in their own category.

TEEN
13 - 18 years
This category is for young people aged 13-18 as of January 1st of the competition year. It is further divided into 3 divisions. This category may, in some events, be combined with the open category; if so, they will be considered open for prize purposes but not for points. Points will be awarded within their age category.

Open
All ages
Although this category is for all ages, it is usually used to categorize adults. It is further divided into 3 Divisions. This category may, in some events, be combined with the Teen category; if so, they will be considered Open for prize purposes but not for points. Points will be awarded within their age category.
